Today is #transdayofvisibility, and I wanted to take a moment to celebrate all of our trans and non-binary HubSpotters, and say thank you to all of the allies who are focused on increasing their awareness through recent sessions w/the amazing folx at The Safe Zone Initiative. Thank you to Benjamin Pereira (he/him)and our LGBTQ+ Alliance for keeping this front and center and continuing to make HubSpot a place where all employees can come and be their authentic selves. With all of the continued anti-trans legislation and sentiment, it's critical that we show our support. A few simple ways: --> Add pronouns to your name whenever possible, including on platforms such as LI and Zoom --> Introduce yourself in team and other settings using your pronouns to indicate it is safe for others to do the same --> Be respectful of other people's pronouns --> Educate yourself on what it means to be trans and non-binary and on why pronouns are important #lgbtq #allyship

Trans Day of Visibility is this week, and today I was lucky enough to attend a workshop with The Safe Zone Initiative on Trans Inclusion thanks to Benjamin Pereira (he/him) and our LGBTQ+ Alliance. Here are a few of my takeaways: 1) The burden of education on trans inclusion shouldn't fall to trans employees. Full stop. 2) The very act of including your pronouns as a cisgender person in your Slack profile can send a powerful message of inclusion (full disclosure: I had forgotten to update mine in our recent Slack update and remedied that this afternoon). 3) Trans inclusion is heavily predicated on broader psychological safety. Suggestions in our breakout groups included setting "community norms" for meetings, celebrating people's names and pronouns, and using regular DI&B discussion points to create safe spaces for people. 4) If you are a trans individual right now, you can't ignore what is happening in the world around us. Inclusive leaders speak up publicly on trans inclusion so trans employees don't have to add worrying about where their leaders stand on basic human rights issues to their list of worries at the moment. 5) Misgendering people consistently should be treated with the same gravitas as other microaggressions at work and treated accordingly by HR teams. What did I miss, HubSpot team? Cheers to creating inclusive and safe spaces for trans employees, Happy early Trans Day of Visibility everyone!

Today's HubTalk with Kodo Nishimura was SO inspiring and beautiful. From a ham sandwich from a friend's mom en route to a gay club (parental allyship for the win) to the role confidence plays in pride, the entire talk was amazing. My personal favorite moment was Kodo encouraging all of us to share and really enjoy (and dance to!) LGBTQ content, media, and songs: "the more we see, the less we are afraid." Thank you Culture and DI&B teams for putting this together and Greg Walters and Larry Womack for moderating and introducing Kodo! #pride

Startups and scaling companies that want to create inclusive workplaces don’t always have the funds to set up comprehensive D&I programs. But you don’t need a big budget to support inclusivity. For #PrideMonth, we’re launching a new collection of open-source materials to help you build a more inclusive workplace, whether you’re at a startup or working for a global brand. Check out the #InclusionAtWork collection here: https://bit.ly/3N2C6jB This collection was created by — and for — #LGBTQIA+ individuals, people who are “firsts” and “onlys,” and allies to the community.
