A CISO has one of the toughest jobs. I have never been one, so I can’t speak from experience, but I imagine the responsibility for protecting a company from cyber attacks and data breaches, where the enemy’s tactics change on a daily basis and the margin for error is pretty much zero, would be immensely stressful. For instance: 💰A 100 million dollar company loses $10,000 to fraud…my guess is very few people outside (and maybe even inside) the company will care. 🔒A 100 million dollar company is breached and 10,000 customer records containing only email addresses and phone numbers are stolen…that is breaking news on many websites. Company leaders: Understand this stress and support your CISO by… -Empathizing with the low margin of error -Providing the necessary budget -Meeting with them regularly to learn about their goals and concerns -Learning about how their team protects your company -Building a company culture that values security -Showing them you will always have their back when something happens -Giving them a voice at the table 🙏Thank you CISOs for taking on the responsibility that many of us (including myself) would not have the courage to handle.
