Can we please stop bashing the cybersecurity industry in LinkedIn posts for likes? All this does is perpetuate the problem being called out and discourage others from joining the cybersecurity field and the community. Rather than helping to solve the cybersecurity talent shortage problem, we are actually making it worse with these posts. Instead, educate others on the issue, provide constructive feedback and explanations for why you think it is occurring, and maybe a potential solution if you have one. The latter will actually foster great conversation and show others that we care about solving the problem.

“You don’t think you’re getting a job here because of your dad, do you?!” An unprofessional HR hiring manager Shocked by the question I meekly responded: “No, I don’t. I’m hoping my experience in interning at this company in three divisions for five years from the time I was 16 would help me get hired.” (I did get hired by the firm but not through that hiring manager. I was told later by the man who hired me, “I hired you *because* of your dad. He’s the nicest hardest working guy I know; I figured he raised you right.”) I didn’t waste my shot.

Quick question - if you could see your country or this planet reach any goal in your lifetime what would it be? Any ideas about how you’d measure progress towards your goal? (We’re figuring out a few things for Canva’s nonprofit program - so would love to hear your thoughts!)

we’ve decided not to attend SXSW this year. this was a decision we came to relatively quickly as a team when we realized we wouldn’t feel comfortable asking LGBTQ+ voices from the Clubhouse community to come to Texas. and if we feel that way, we shouldn’t be there at all as a brand. instead, we’re going to hold the panel we had planned, “The Power of Voice,” in Clubhouse. we'll also be donating SXSW travel costs to local organizations and we're going to gather trans speakers and creators together for a series of rooms supporting and celebrating the community 🏳️⚧️

What questions do you have about leadership? Over the next few months, I’m going to post responses to the top questions I get from new managers, aspiring executives, and my own team at HubSpot. Throughout my career, I wished I’d gotten more real, actionable advice about leadership, especially as a woman and person of color. So, the goal of this ‘Dear Leaders’ series is to share my personal learnings, failures, and lessons in hopes of helping the next generation of leaders. These are the questions I get the most often that I’ll start with: How do you successfully go from being an IC to a manager or leader? How do you provide candid feedback while getting the best out of your team? How do you balance work and life as a female leader? How do you find mentors and get the most out of mentorship? How do you handle imposter syndrome? What other questions do you have about leadership? Comment below with your suggestions! While I may not be able to get to each one, I’ll share my reflections on the top themes in new LinkedIn posts over the next few weeks. #leadership #diverseleaders #hubspot

In a million years, I wouldn't have seen this coming, but #kanyewest is on to something... Why? Some thoughts: To pre-empt some people: you can argue that he shouldn't complain, "he did well", "he's just a loony" etc. But that's not the point here. The issue is much more rooted in how we do contracts (in business and life) and why. As a newly graduated lawyer, I co-founded a record label. We needed to do contracts and I saw this issue first hand. I "stole" a copy from a large international record label, and I was simply amazed at what they included. Basically, you give away the right to name your first-born child - at least... How did it come to this? I see some main issues (non-prioritized): 1. Contracts become complex, and non-lawyers don't understand the actual content. 2. Not all will hire a professional to review contracts. 3. Some industries have a very large exploitation potential; a classic "big corporate" vs. "individual me" situation. 4. The eagerness of the "small party" makes them do stupid stuff that they can't see the consequences of. Who's to blame? It doesn't matter. Looking ahead is way more important - how do we change this natural selection for the better? How do we become more transparent? Ideas or anything to add? Let me know! #legaltech #contracts

You wouldn’t speak to someone on a dating app a few times and then contractually agree to make every big life decision for the next 10 years together. It’s the same principle as deciding to give up a board seat to a new investor at an early stage. As with many other industries and aspects of life, the current world situation has put a new spin on things. We’re having to conduct important meetings and complete key deals without the benefit of face-to-face interaction, and the opportunity that brings to build rapport. Early stage founders, whatever you do, don’t give board seats away to people you met over Zoom last week. In a world where the notion of deep human connection is challenged daily we must adapt fast, but be cautious. The new normal may be getting deals done via video call, but trust is still built over time. Take that time. Cherish optionality.
