For the LGBTQ+ community, there's a lack of data around the economic realities of pay gaps. This makes it difficult to quantify pay disparities. Makes ya wonder, right? 🧐 In 2021, Canada took an important first step—gender-identity questions were included in the national census (for the first time ever, hooray!) However, the US and many other countries are lagging behind in collecting diversity data. Robust data sets are key to closing gender-based pay gaps. From developing policies to engaging all the different sectors—we’re talkin’ public, private, AND non-profit— we must come together to prioritize equal pay. At Unbounce, we encourage our team members to self-identify. And we’ve outlined this process in our #PayUpForProgress toolkit. We’ve also invited other companies to do the same and join the pay parity movement because there still is an unadjusted gap of 84.5c to $1 across sectors. Which means that for every dollar a non-LGBTQ+ employee earns, an LGBTQ+ employee makes only 84.5 cents. Only *slightly* better than the US gap. Our work is far from over. We’re making self-identifying at Unbounce easier and safer for our team members by ensuring confidentiality, communicating our use cases for the data, and using a people management tool for Unbouncers to speak to who they are on their own terms. So, here we are, on Pride 2022, addressing the LGBTQ+ pay gap. We want to take this knowledge and turn it into action steps that business leaders can take and the LGBTQ+ can see that $1. Let’s close the gap.
